Days like today are why I don't think I could handle moving to California: golden mornings that are wonderful only because you know that within days it will be too cold and dim outside to be enjoyable, wonderful because you can see winter spread out ahead of you despite the last clinging bits of warmth, wonderful because thin rain-coat yellow leaves rain onto the streets. I'm pretty sure this doesn't happen in Santa Barbara, for all the stunning sea-side cliffs.

You've been listening to Joni Mitchell's "California" again haven't you?

Yes... but then you have that winter... How about holding on until the last minute and then moving to Santa Barbara for the stretch? Californians seem pretty happy.

The winter makes us strong! *grunt*

Californians seem a little TOO happy. I'm suspicious
